The Unseen Babies of the Rohingya

More than 600.000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar since violence broke out in Rakhine State on August 25 - over half of them are children.

Babies born in Balukhali camp in Bangladesh often come into the world without medical care or clean water to be bathed in. Their birth is nowhere to be registered. They are the unseen, stateless children of the Rohingya.

The baby-feet of the daughter of Aisha (20), who arrived about a month ago to Balukhali refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Her baby is twenty five days old.
Anwara (17) sits with her seven days old baby and her niece. They arrived in the first week of September at Balukhali refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. "We fled because people were shooting at us. It took us five days to get here. Sometimes I slipped back and my stomack hurt. It was a hard journey. There were twelve of us and now we are all living here together."

Mondaz (26) carries her daughter, which was born twenty-two days ago. It's her first child. Mondaz came to the Balukhali refugee camp with her husband, mother, two sisters and two brothers.
Fatima (25) arrived with her husband and daughter (2) two months ago at the Balukhali camp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Her new born daughter is one month old.
Jomila (25) arrived together with her husband and three other children the first week of September at Balukhali refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh. Her baby is eight days old.
